May is Leave a Legacy Month: this month always feels extra celebratory to me.

Over the years we have had many donors leave their legacy in support of our shelter animals – by leaving a gift or bequest to the Winnipeg Humane Society in your will, you are supporting our community of animals, and the people who care for them for generations to come.

When I try to imagine what our organization will look like in 10-15 years, how we have advanced and grown the scope of our care, our dreams are limitless – please consider being a part of our journey and make these dreams an actuality.

This year for the first time ever the WHS is participating in a special planned giving program. Starting Monday May 3 – 31, you can have a simple Will written, or an existing Will updated, free of charge through our participation in Free Will Month. If your needs are more complex and you would benefit from a specialist’s advice or trust arrangements – you can still utilize this service with a unique agreement.

Should you wish to take part in the promotion, please visit www.freewillsmonth.ca  where you will be able to choose from a list of local lawyers participating in Free Wills Month.

In writing this post, I would be doing our organization an injustice not to mention our very special Donor Relations Manager, Sharon Rubel.  Sharon by both trade and natural tendency is someone who softly and charismatically works with each of our generous donors to make their legacy wishes become a reality. The special attribute Sharon has, is that her love of both the animals we care for, and the donors that help us care for them is unwavering. If you have a question, or would like to plan a COVID friendly meet and greet, or would like to learn more about how Sharon and the WHS can carry your legacy forward, please contact her at 204-982-2033 or [email protected].

In the spirit of this special month, I will sign off by thanking you for the legacy you have already brought forward in support of animal welfare by the gifts you give to us, each and every day.

Yours truly,

Jessica Miller
