More than 130 small dogs have been brought into our care after a large removal by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian-Animal Welfare (OPV-AW).
We are asking for the community’s support and understanding as we navigate this ongoing emergency. Here is the most up-to-date information and public requests:
- While the OPV-AW continues to investigate, the WHS cannot release any further information about this case or the dogs involved. As information becomes available we will update the public on our website and social media.
- There will be no waitlist as dogs become available for adoption. Adoptions will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please visit us at 45 Hurst Way to see what dogs are available.
- Please refrain from calling the Emergency Line to ask about the charges, the case, or the dogs. This line is for emergencies only.
- If you are able, please consider donating. Funds cover support such as medical care, food, enrichment, and the additional staffing required to ensure the well-being of the large volume of dogs and all the animals in our care.
- We are at critical capacity, which means:
- We’re asking the public to hold on to strays. We can provide food for people willing to care for these animals until we can do so ourselves.
- We will still accept sick and injured animals.
