The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the PEDIGREE Foundation to support the organization’s behaviour department, focusing on training for both dogs and new owners.

“Behaviour training is a critical piece to a shelter dog’s well-being. It offers them mental stimulation, enrichment, and builds their social skills to get them ready for adoption,” says Yvonne Coe, Director of Behaviour and Animal Care, adding that training people is equally important to build their confidence as a pet parent. “This funding will help us ensure we are setting both people and their pets up for success.”

In 2024, 10 Canadian shelters and rescue organizations were awarded PEDIGREE Foundation grants to help implement behaviour, transport, and safety net programs, supporting 5,400 dogs in need.

PEDIGREE Foundation was established in 2008 by Mars Petcare, maker of PEDIGREE® food for dogs, to help increase dog adoption rates. Since launching their Canadian grant program in 2022, they have provided $345,0000 to local shelters and rescues in need across Canada, as well as $20,000 in disaster relief.
