Winnipeg Humane Society to Help Care for 130+ Dogs After Mass Removal by the Province
The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian-Animal Welfare (OPV-AW) has removed more than 130 small dogs from a residence north of the City of Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is working closely with the OPV-AW by assisting in providing shelter and care to a large number of these dogs.
While the OPV-AW continues to investigate, the WHS cannot release any further information, photographs, or videos pertaining to this case or the dogs involved.
This seizure comes only three months after more than 60 Maltese dogs were brought into the WHS’ care after being removed from a Winnipeg home by Animal Services; two other large removals followed.
The WHS is currently on an intake freeze with more than 611 animals in care – 239 are in foster – and is utilizing all possible shelter resources. The WHS is asking the community for donations to help with their immediate care as the organization navigates the ongoing crisis. Donations can be made at winnipeghumanesociety.ca.
The WHS will continue to update the public on additional needs, including potential fosters, in the coming days via our website and social media.
